WASHINGTON NATIONALS TEAM UP WITH MILLER HIGH LIFE AND IAVA TO HONOR LOCAL VETERANS
The Washington Nationals have partnered with Miller High Life and the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) to honor local military veterans on Wednesday, August 11 as part of the “Give a Veteran a Piece of the High Life” program.
The evening will begin with a special pregame event from 4:30pm to 7:00pm on the Rooftop Party Deck. The veterans and their families are then invited to watch as the Washington Nationals take on the Florida Marlins at 7:05pm.
Miller High Life deliveryman WindellMiddlebrooks will join the veterans during the Nationals game, while IAVA Executive Director Paul Rieckhoff will throw out the Ceremonial First Pitch and select veterans will participate in various pregame activities.
OPERATION BACK TO SCHOOL WITH USO-METRO & MICROSOFT
Events at Fort Belvoir & Fort Meade
Fort Meade, VA and Fort Belvoir, VA – The USO of Metropolitan Washington (USO-Metro), in partnership with Microsoft, will host Operation Back to School events and back pack giveaway for the children of active duty service members. Children will participate in school day themed events, receiving a report card and grade for each interactive station they complete. Children will also receive a back pack stuffed with school supplies when they turn in their report card at the end of the event. As part of the Microsoft and USO-Metro ‘A Salute to Our Troops’ program, more than 5000 backpacks were stuffed with school supplies for children of military service members.

I am a young military officer that recently moved from D.C. to Denver. I am a reservist that has been both officer and enlisted, and in two different branches of the military. For years I have attended many events and conferences which have enhanced my professional development, expanded my network, and made me a more informed service member.
As a reservist, I balance a civilian and military career, grad school, and time with friends and family. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve our country and I love to share my experiences.
